Special Courses in Vocational Training for Adults - Approved for Veteran Training under Public Laws 16 and 346

Baxter Seminary did its part to provide a group of qualified instructors, instruction material, tools, and workshops in order to offer and teach vocational classes to the World War II Veterans.  The instructors came from several fields where skilled workers, technicians, builders, installation and repairmen, etc. were needed.  This fell right in line with Dr. Upperman's desire and goal of training students as stated in his  "I Believe"  card to equip them to be able to make a good living and to be upstanding, contributing members of the community.

The Veterans were offered courses in:

  • Auto Mechanics
  • Auto Upholstering
  • Auto Body Work
  • Cabinet and Furniture Making
  • Carpentry
  • General Electricity
  • Masonry
  • Radio Servicing
  • Refrigeration

Over 2,500  Veterans  took advantage of these educational opportunities in the late 1940's and the early 1950's.
