Dr. Patton R. Broyles

The third President of Baxter Seminary was the Reverend Patton Reeve Broyles.  He graduated from Tusculum College in 1902.  He came to Baxter on December 27, 1916.  During his administration a hopeless appearing task of paying off the $4,800 debt was accomplished; the number of faculty increased; home economics, religious education, and agriculture departments were introduced, a unique boy’s hall erected; and much needed improvements were made.

Rev. Broyles was called to other work and resigned in 1923.

He went on to pastor at several churches, was later elected as the Superintendent of the Morgan County Schools, and started the Broyles Insurance Company.
